IMPORTANT FUEL SAFETY INFORMATION

USE ALCOHOL FUEL ONLY » MOST ALCOHOL FUELS ARE TOXIC » AVOID SKIN CONTACT » DO NOT INGEST
USE ONLY IN A WELL VENTILATED AREA » AN ALCOHOL FLAME IS NEARLY INVISIBLE IN BRIGHT LIGHT
THE STOVE MUST BE COOL TO THE TOUCH BEFORE REFILLING

PRO TIPS
○ Alcohol fuel can be safely stored and transported in plastic bottles
○ A squeeze bottle with a flip top cap makes stove filling easy
○ Add fuel slowly and allow it to soak in
○ The stove is full (30ml) when fuel pools in the center hole
○ Pre-warm Alcohol Fuel to body temperature in cold conditions
○ If the water is icy cold reduce the quantity of water to 2-cups max
○ The three crimped tubes on the pot stand are the feet and go down
○ When the pot stand hinges begin to slip retighten by pinching the center crease of the hinge
○ Avoid touching the black carbon wick with fingers
○ Keep the stove lid away from heat (the foam gasket will melt)
○ Wind kills stove efficiency. Select a sheltered location and use a windscreen. See our DIY Windscreen Pattern below
○ The Toaks Light Titanium 550ml Pot is the perfect match for this stove
○ A Toaks D115mm Pan placed under the stove works as a heat shield and stabilizer on soft ground

MAXIMIZING FUEL ECONOMY ON ULTRALIGHT ADVENTURES
○ Choose a low & wide cookpot over a tall & narrow one (see above)
○ Use a fitted pot lid to quickly save its weight in fuel
○ Wipe the moisture off your cookpot before placing it on the stove
○ Light the stove immediately after filling
○ Extinguish the flame as soon as the job is finished
○ Close the stove lid snugly to save leftover fuel for next use

FAQs

What can I do with this stove?
The REDHOT alcohol stove is ideal for boiling water for beverages, heating soups and prepared foods and cooking simple thru-hiker style meals.

Is alcohol fuel easy to find?
Alcohol fuel is readily available worldwide. Nearly every minimart, grocery, auto supply, hardware and general merchandise store in the USA sells it (see above). This simplifies resupply on thru-hikes and bikepacking trips.

Are alcohol stoves safe?
Alcohol fuel is much less volatile than petroleum fuel (White Gas, Coleman Fuel), and unlike canister stove fuel (Butane, Isobutane), is not kept under pressure. Alcohol fuel is especially clean burning and is commonly used indoors on buffet tables, fondues and in tabletop fireplaces.

Because alcohol stoves lack an ON/OFF switch care should be taken to properly extinguish the flame (see above). Methanol (HEET-Yellow Bottle) and Ethanol-Methanol blends (Denatured Alcohol) are highly toxic if ingested.

How does the REDHOT compare to similar looking stoves?
The folding pot stand included with the REDHOT was designed and made in our Bend Oregon workshop. It fits the stove perfectly when in use and stows away neatly when not. The REDHOT is the only stove that comes with this surprisingly sturdy, compact and lightweight (11g) Stainless and Aluminum pot stand.

Our wick material is also different from what other stove makers are using. We sourced a carbon felt that won’t shrink or float or fall out of the stove and die-cut it for an exact fit. It makes our stove effectively spill-proof and unlike similar looking stoves, the REDHOT will work like new after hundreds of firings.

Finally, the REDHOT is made by people who use these stoves on long-distance, human-powered travels (that’s us in the images on this page). If you’re looking for a well made, simple to use, ultralight and efficient alcohol stove for your next adventure — get a REDHOT!
